What to do in Portsmouth

Portsmouth is proud of its maritime and naval heritage. Rebuilt due to extensive damage suffered during the WWII bombing raids, you aren’t far from exploring the harbour’s past in the historic dockyard and Gunwharf Quays, which is now a retail centre with modern amenities.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard takes you through the Royal Navy’s history and allows you onboard some of the world's famous ships and submarines. Kids can also enjoy the pirate life, making their own flags and trying out different weapons.

For a bit of retail therapy, Gunwharf Quays has a wide selection of shops from bargains to leading brands and a number of pubs, bars and restaurants to grab a bite to eat or relax in. There is also a gallery, cinema and a casino if you want to wander around and take in a bit more of the sites.

Old Portsmouth has plenty of historic sites with views of the sea as you walk through. Look out for the plaques as they guide you along the way and tell of the town’s past.
