Customer advice:
A person has been struck by a train between Eastbourne and Bexhill.
Lines are closed between these stations, so this incident is leading to major disruption to Southern services in this area.
You are strongly advised to travel later today, once lines reopen. You'll be able to see further updates on this page, so please continue to check back here.
If you travel in this area now, it's likely that you will need to use another local public transport route, if there's one available. This will take at least an hour longer than usual. This is not an exact estimate.
Trains which usually run between Eastbourne and Bexhill will finish their journeys before getting to this part of the network, or will be cancelled. More details are below.
Changes to services:
Trains cannot run between Eastbourne and Bexhill at all.
This means there will be no trains calling at Pevensey & Westham, Pevensey Bay, Normans Bay, Cooden Beach or Collington.
To provide as many trains as possible on the rest of our "East Coastway" route, Southern run the following services, where possible:
Due to trains and crews no longer being in the correct places, Southern are unlikely to be able to run any services between Bexhill, Hastings, Ore and Ashford International. If possible, these will be shown on journey planners.
There may be some short-notice changes beyond this plan. Please check departures from your station before you travel.
If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:
If your train is delayed between stations, please remain where you are and listen to announcements, or speak to staff for further information. Southern will get you moving as soon as possible. They are aware of your location, and their teams will be doing everything they can to help you continue your journey.
Please don't leave the train unless you are asked to do so. Other trains may still be moving in the area, and the track is also a very hazardous environment. In areas where the trains are powered by an electric third rail, this usually stays live and dangerous during incidents, and looks the same as other rails.
Ticket acceptance on alternative routes:
Your Southern ticket will be accepted at no extra cost on:
Southeastern between Hastings and the London area, and between Ashford International, Tonbridge and London (except High Speed services)
Brighton & Hove Buses on all routes between Brighton and Lewes, and between Brighton and Eastbourne
Stagecoach Buses between Polegate, Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings and Rye, and between Ham Street and Ashford International
Alternative Southern services between Brighton and Lewes
Thameslink services between Brighton and the London area
Gatwick Express services between Brighton, Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport and London Victoria
London Underground to transfer across London on any reasonable route
Replacement buses:
Southern have requested buses from their suppliers, but it is proving to be very difficult to arrange any. Where these are available, there won't be enough to run a scheduled service. Station teams will send the buses to locations where they are most needed.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
