South Western Railway between Salisbury and Romsey

Description

A safety inspection of the track at Dean means that all lines are blocked.

As a result, trains between Salisbury and Southampton Central are currently unable to operate, and will be cancelled or revised.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Great Western Railway

Services are unable to run between Salisbury and Southampton Central.

Tickets will be accepted on the following routes:

  • CrossCountry between Southampton Central and Reading. Customers travelling from the South Coast to Bath, Bristol and South Wales or vice versa may travel via Reading

  • South Western Railway between Salisbury and Southampton Central, via Basingstoke


If you are at Cardiff Central / Newport / Bristol Temple Meads / Bath Spa and are travelling towards the South Coast you may travel on Great Western Railway services towards London Paddington, and change at Reading for CrossCountry services towards Bournemouth, which call at Southampton Central. From Southampton Central you may use South Western Railway services to complete your journey.

If you are at Portsmouth Harbour / Portsmouth & Southsea / Fratton / Fareham and are travelling to Bath Spa / Bristol Temple Meads / South Wales, you may travel on South Western Railway services towards London Waterloo and change at Basingstoke. From Basingstoke, you may take either a Great Western Railway or a CrossCountry service to Reading, where you can change for Great Western Railway services towards your destination.

If you are at Southampton Central and are travelling to Bath Spa / Bristol Temple Meads / South Wales, you should travel to Reading using either South Western Railway services via Basingstoke, or direct CrossCountry services. At Reading you can change for Great Western Railway services towards your destination.

If you are at Salisbury and are travelling to Southampton Central and vice versa, you should travel on South Western Railway services via Basingstoke.

South Western Railway

Dean, Mottisfont & Dunbridge, Romsey, Chandlers Ford, Redbridge and Millbrook will not be served.

Until further notice the following alterations will be necessary:

  • All services between Salisbury, Romsey and Southampton Central will be cancelled in both directions

To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself, on the following services:

  • Bluestar bus route 1 between Winchester - Chandlers Ford - Southampton

  • Bluestar bus route 2 between Southampton - Swaythling - Eastleigh

  • Bluestar bus route 4 between Southampton and Romsey

  • Bluestar bus route 5 between Eastleigh and Romsey

  • Bluestar bus route 23 between Eastleigh and Velmore (near Chandlers Ford).

  • Salisbury Reds bus routes X7 and X7R between Salisbury - Romsey - Totton - Southampton

  • Salisbury Reds bus route between Salisbury and Dean station

  • Stagecoach bus route 66 between Romsey and Winchester

Passengers are able to arrange their own taxis in order to complete their journey between Southampton stations and Salisbury via Chandlers Ford and Romsey, and claim this back from the South Western Railway customer services team. In order to claim a refund, you will need:

  • Full contact details

  • The time and date of your journey

  • The stations you travelled to and from

  • A description of the series of events that took place

  • Copies of your train tickets and taxi receipt
