Description

A fault with the signalling system near Hazel Grove is causing disruption to journeys running between Sheffield / Buxton and Stockport.

As a result, trains running through the area may be cancelled, delayed by up to 25 minutes, revised or diverted.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Additional information:

Network Rail are investigating the fault and are carrying out tests on the signalling.

How does this affect my train?

Trains are unable to run between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions.

Where possible, East Midlands Railway are running last services of the evening on the Liverpool / Nottingham / Norwich route to keep you on the move.

East Midlands Railway now expect the line to be closed for the remainder of the evening.

How do I get where I need to be?

If you are travelling between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street, other operators are still able to run and you are able to use your ticket to travel on their services.

You can also use your ticket to travel on services between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street via Leeds. If you travel on other operators services your journey may be extended by up to 60 minutes.

Don’t worry about your ticket, East Midlands Railway have already made arrangements with other train companies for you to travel with your original ticket and you shouldn't have to pay any more.

East Midlands Railway have relaxed some of their usual ticket restrictions. If you hold an Advance Ticket’ which is usually valid on a specific train you may use it to travel on any of their trains on this route.

Some services may be diverted and will not call at Stockport.

  • Customers travelling to Stockport can board the next available Northern departure from Manchester Piccadilly towards Stockport

  • Customers at Stockport can travel on the next available Northern departure towards Manchester Piccadilly. Change at Manchester Piccadilly for onward TransPennine Express connections towards your destination

  • Customers can travel on Northern services between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly

  • Customers can travel on East Midlands Railway services between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street

  • Customers can travel on Northern services between Leeds and Sheffield in both directions

  • Customers can travel on CrossCountry services between Leeds and Sheffield in both directions

  • Customers can travel on alternative TransPennine Express services between Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly/ Liverpool in both directions
