Between Birmingham International / Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth

Description

A collision between 2 trains occurred in the Talerddig area on the evening of Monday 21 October. Due to the ongoing recovery work, the line between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth will remain closed to trains until at least Monday 28 October, with replacement road transport in place.

Customers planning to use the line should expect delays to their journeys between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth, and plan ahead where possible.

A joint statement has been released from Network Rail and Transport for Wales regarding the incident.

Customer advice:

Services between Machynlleth and Pwllheli are able to run as normal. Services are also running between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth.

Rail replacement transport is in operation between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth. The main road through Llanbrynmair (between Caersws and Machynlleth) is closed to help with the recovery of the incident. This means that buses have to take a detour, resulting in extended journey times. Connecting trains to Aberystwyth / Pwllheli will wait for the buses to arrive at Machynlleth.

To assist you with your journey, you may use your ticket on local bus operator Celtic Travel route X75 between Shrewsbury and Caersws at no extra cost.

Due to operational challenges following the incident, there will be no Transport for Wales services running between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International today or Sunday 27 October.

Ticket acceptance has been agreed with West Midlands Railways on this route, however customers are advised to use alternate routes where possible.

When the line reopens, there will be some temporary service amendments in place with some rail replacement buses covering any cancelled train services.
