Description
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms on Wednesday 30 July and Thursday 1 August across most parts of England and Wales.
In addition to thunderstorms, over the next 48 hours, South East and central England will experience high temperatures.
There are currently no weather related disruptions reported. Any disruptions related to heat or stormy weather will be published once we have more information.
Extreme weather impact:
The forecasted weather may cause trains to be disrupted:
Heat can cause line-side fires, cause overhead lines to expand and sag and also cause rails to buckle
Heavy rainfall can cause flooding that results in tracks being underwater and embankments being damaged, causing potential landslips
Flooding can also affect points and signalling equipment, which allow trains to move from one line to another
Advice for customers:
Please check before you travel and allow more time for your journey on affected days. Speed restrictions may be in place which can cause delays and cancellations.
If you are travelling in hot weather, please carry water with you to avoid dehydration and do not travel by train if you feel unwell, please seek assistance from station staff or use the help point.
Further information can be found here.
Check before you travel:
You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner. Please take note of any service updates which may show on your particular journey.
Compensation:
You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
